I’m Derrick Miller, an independent, licensed agent in Stallings, North Carolina. When you work with me, I compare Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans from the insurance companies I represent. This page lists those companies, state by state, so you know exactly what to expect before you schedule a consultation.
I represent a limited number of carriers, which means I cannot show you every plan in your area. To see every plan available where you live, visit Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What “Independent” Means, and What It Doesn’t
Independent means I’m not employed by one insurance company, so I can compare plans from more than one carrier. It does not mean I represent every carrier. Which plans I can offer depends on the companies I’m contracted with and on the county you live in.
If you want to see plans from companies I don’t represent, Medicare.gov lists every plan available in your area, and 1-800-MEDICARE can answer questions about all of your options.
How a Plan Comparison Works
- We start with you. I ask about your doctors, your prescriptions, your pharmacy and any other coverage you have.
- I look at plans in your county. I review plans from the carriers I represent where you live.
- We compare them side by side. We look at provider networks, drug coverage and costs, including the premium, the deductible and the yearly out-of-pocket maximum.
- You decide. There is no obligation, and you’re welcome to take time to think it over.
- If you choose to enroll, I help with the application. Plan premiums are set by the insurance carrier and are the same whether or not you work with an agent.
What to Have Ready
- Your red, white and blue Medicare card
- A list of your doctors, specialists and preferred hospital
- Your medication list, with dosages
- The name of your preferred pharmacy
- Your current plan’s Annual Notice of Change, if you received one
- Details of any other coverage, such as employer, retiree, VA or Medicaid coverage
Questions to Ask Any Agent or Insurance Company
These questions are worth asking whoever you work with, including me:
- Which insurance companies do you represent in my county?
- Are there plans in my area that you can’t offer?
- Are my doctors, specialists and hospital in the plan’s network?
- Are my prescriptions covered, and what will they cost?
- Is my pharmacy in the network?
- What are the premium, the deductible and the yearly out-of-pocket maximum?
- What happens if I travel or spend part of the year in another state?
When You Can Change Your Coverage
The Annual Enrollment Period runs every year from October 15 through December 7, and changes made during that time generally take effect January 1. If you’re turning 65, you have a seven-month Initial Enrollment Period. Certain life events, such as moving or losing other coverage, may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.
